Mukesh Ambani, Chairman of Reliance Industries Ltd., announced fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) service called Jio GigaFiber, a combo service of broadband internet, fixed-line telephone service and television set-top-box, at its AGM on August 12. Renamed JioFiber, the service is all set to bring broadband revolution in India from September 5 and believe it or not, it will be for free, at least for the first two months for the preview customers.

Reliance first announced its Jio GigaFiber service in 2018 AGM and came up with Jio GigaFiber preview offer in the select cities with a security deposit of Rs 2500. These customers will not be charged by Reliance Jio for the minimum period of two months after the roll out of Jio Fiber. Alternatively, preview customers can also take a refund of Rs 2500 they paid as security deposit at any time, as per the Times of India report.

The basic plan will start at 100 Mbps and go up to 1 Gbps. Jio Fiber plans will be priced between Rs 700 and Rs 10,000 per month.

The cheapest data plan is priced at Rs 700 a month, and has speeds up to 100Mbps. The top-end plan comes at Rs 10,000 a month and provides access to broadband, Jio HomeTV and Jio's IoT.

Jio Fiber data plans will be bundled with subscriptions to premium OTT platforms. 

Jio hasn’t specified which OTT plans it will offer as yet. At present, Jio users get a free subscription to Hotstar. Jio also has a ‘Welcome Offer’ for users who opt for Jio Fiber annual plans. These customers will get a free HD or 4K LED TV and a 4K Jio set-top box.

Jio also announced its premium Jio Fiber customers will get access to new movies released on the same day. Jio calls this its ‘First Day First Show’ feature which will be available during mid 2020. More features for Jio Fiber users include free voice calls to anyone in the country. Jio also unveiled affordable international calling rates like US/Canada pack priced at Rs 500 per month.
